Most fashion jewellery is made from plated brass, copper alloys or stainless steel. Those materials can feel heavy, tarnish with water and sweat, or release metals that irritate sensitive skin. Why choose titanium jewellery?

Titanium is one of the best jewellery metals for sensitive skin. It does not rust or tarnish like silver, and it does not rely on reactive base metals like plated brass. It is also much lighter than steel, which makes it easier to wear in hoops, huggies, studs and cartilage jewellery.

Every rhokea piece starts with implant-grade titanium, including ASTM F136 or ASTM F67 materials. Our gold-tone pieces use a titanium nitride ceramic barrier with a pure 24K gold finish, while our silver-tone pieces use a chromium nitride ceramic barrier with a platinum finish. We call this SkinPlating: a layered finish designed for prolonged contact with sensitive skin.

Does titanium jewellery tarnish?

Titanium is highly resistant to corrosion, which means it does not tarnish in the way sterling silver, brass or copper-based jewellery can. You can wear titanium jewellery in normal everyday conditions, including around water and sweat, without the same risk of green marks or dark tarnish.

Is titanium jewellery good for sensitive skin?

Yes. Titanium is widely regarded as one of the lowest-reactivity jewellery metals. True titanium allergy is rare, while nickel allergy is much more common. That is why the exact material matters. Look for jewellery that states the titanium grade clearly and can back up its skin-safety claims.

rhokea uses implant-grade titanium and independent testing on finished pieces. Our material testing has reported very low nickel release on coated and post surfaces, below the EU limit for jewellery inserted into pierced parts of the body.

What titanium jewellery should I choose?

Choose titanium hoops or huggies for everyday lobe styling. Choose titanium studs for a simple polished look. Choose flat back studs if you want a smooth back that sits flush against the ear, especially for stacked lobes, cartilage piercings or sleeping. Choose titanium piercing hoops for healed cartilage placements such as helix, conch, daith and tragus.
